The earthquake occurred in an area where we announced INCREASED seismic hazard exposure in our latest weekly earthquake forecast for the Japan region, on January 22, 2024, available here. We forecasted that within the tectonic zones of the Izu Islands, Hokkaido, and near the eastern coast of Honshu, the critical potential will be high due to the enhanced shear traction and critical instability.
