The earthquake occurred in an area where we announced HIGH-INCREASED seismic hazard exposure (orange-yellow alert) in our latest weekly earthquake forecast for the Euro-Mediterranean region, on April 15, 2024, available here.

Quantectum’s Macroseismic Intensity map indicates that the earthquake reached level “VII” macroseismic intensity, which was associated with VERY STRONG shaking and moderate damage to the infrastructure. Potentially exposed cities were Sulusaray (pop. 4,000), Kadışehri (pop. 6,000), Artova (pop. 6,000), Zile (pop. 56,000), Akdağmadeni (pop. 23,000), Turhal (pop. 111,000), Tokat (pop. 130,000), Amasya (pop. 115,000), Sivas (pop. 264,000), Yozgat (pop. 88,000), Çorum (pop. 270,000), Samsun (pop. 394,000), Kayseri (pop. 1,200,000), and Fatsa (pop. 82,000).

There have been no reports of damage, injuries, or casualties as a result of the earthquake so far and no particular alert was issued.
