A lognormal distribution of earthquake rates describes the frequency of earthquakes over time in a specific region. Blue colors indicate areas with an expected normal or less-than-normal earthquake rate, whereas yellow colors highlight areas where the current earthquake rate is increased in comparison to long-term smoothed seismicity models.
