ShakeOut Day – Earthquake Drill at Quantectum

On the 19th of October 2023, Quantectum prepared a company drill as part of the practice for earthquake safety guidance, such as "Drop, Cover, and Hold On”, for the annual international ShakeOut day.

The Great ShakeOut is a globally recognized annual event, designed to elevate earthquake preparedness and awareness. On that day, participants engaged in a structured drill to familiarize themselves with the necessary actions to take in the event of an earthquake, with the primary guiding principle being "Drop, Cover, and Hold On." This key directive encapsulates a set of critical behaviors and precautions, which are as follows:

- Drop: In response to the simulated quake, individuals are encouraged to immediately drop to the ground. This action minimizes the risk of being knocked over and helps maintain balance during the shaking.

- Cover: Following the initial drop, participants are advised to take cover under sturdy furniture or any available protection. This shields them from falling objects and potential debris, reducing the risk of injury.

- Hold On: The final component of the mantra involves holding on to the protective cover or furniture for the duration of the earthquake. This stabilizes the shelter, offering further protection from objects in motion and helping to prevent injury.

At the event, we learned that if an earthquake tremor occurs, if you are indoors, stay there. Do not rush outside, as the risk of falling objects and debris is higher. Find a safe spot to take cover until the shaking stops. If possible, avoid windows, mirrors, and glass doors, since shattered glass can cause serious injuries. If you can't find cover, crouch against an interior wall, covering your head and neck with your arms. This can offer some protection from falling objects.

The Great ShakeOut event serves as a valuable opportunity for communities to reinforce earthquake preparedness, enhance public safety, and educate individuals about the importance of quick and smart decisions in case of tremors. With Quantectum’s drill, we better equipped our employees to respond effectively to the unpredictability of earthquakes, potentially saving lives and minimizing damage.
