Not knowing when an earthquake is going to occur can have devastating consequences for peoples' lives. We might not be able to save our house, personal items, trees, and other objects in the outer environment, but we can save our life and the lives of other people.​

How do earthquakes affect society? ​

An earthquake can destroy buildings, factories, roads, schools, and other infrastructure necessary for everyday life. Many damaged people might become homeless, many children might become orphans, and many people might lose their loves-ones, pets, etc. Moreover, they can disrupt public services like transport systems and communication infrastructure, which can isolate people from the world, damage health facilities and transportation, which can disrupt service delivery and access to health care. Worst of all, survivors might face a lack of food supplies and lack of drinking water, because they all might be contaminated. ​

The consequences of earthquakes do not end here. Long after an earthquake, some people can still experience trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder. This does not need to happen to you. ​
